What's a glossary exactly?

Strictly speaking, glossaries are alphabetical lists of words (terms) relating to a specific subject and include explanations of what these terms mean (Lat. glossa means an explanation of a difficult word).

Glossaries are generally written in the same language, whereas (bilingual) word lists are lists of individual terms in a language that are stated along with the terms that correspond most closely to them in another language.
